Terms of use
Last updated 26 September 2026
These terms are the rules for using Open Library Kashmir (OLK), on the website (openlibrarykashmir.com) and in the Android app. By creating an account you agree to them. Please read them together with our privacy policy, which explains what we do with your data.
What OLK is
OLK is a free, community-run service run by Owais Saleem (see the Impressum). It helps members lend, give away and find books near them, and run local reading clubs and events. We may add more ways to share reading material over time, such as selling. OLK brings members together; the exchanges themselves happen between members. OLK does not own, check or deliver the books, and is not a party to any exchange.
Who can use OLK
- You must be 18 or older.
- One account per person. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens on your account.
- Use your own details. Don't pretend to be someone else, another member, or the OLK team.
- If your account has been suspended, don't create another one to get around it.
Books and exchanges
- Only list books you own and are free to lend or give away. Describe them honestly, including their condition.
- Today OLK is for lending and giving books away for free. Selling books or other reading material through OLK isn't available yet; until it is, don't ask for money or payment for a book listed to lend or give away, and don't use OLK to advertise. If we add selling, these terms will say how it works before it starts.
- If you borrow a book, look after it and return it by the agreed time. If you accept a request, hand the book over as agreed.
- Meet in a public place, tell someone where you are going, and use the chat on OLK to arrange things. Never share bank or payment details.
- OLK can't guarantee that another member behaves well or that a book arrives or comes back. If something goes wrong, report it (see below).
What is not allowed
Anywhere on OLK — listings, photos, messages, club chats, notes, profiles, events — you must not post, send or do:
- harassment, bullying, threats, stalking or intimidation of anyone;
- hate speech, or attacks on people because of their religion, ethnicity, caste, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability or any similar characteristic;
- sexual or sexually suggestive content, or anything involving minors in a sexual way;
- violence, glorifying violence or terrorism, or encouraging self-harm;
- anything illegal, including illegal goods, pirated material or copyright infringement;
- other people's personal information (phone numbers, addresses, photos) without their permission;
- spam, scams, fake listings, fake accounts, or advertising;
- misleading content that pretends to be from OLK or another person;
- attempts to break, overload or get around the security of OLK, or to collect other members' data (for example by scraping).
Clubs and events
Club organisers and event hosts must follow these terms and keep their club chat and events within them. Organisers decide who joins their club. Meeting details are shared only as the organiser chooses. Attending an event is at your own responsibility.
Reporting, blocking and moderation
- You can report a book or a member, and block a member, from their page or from a chat. A block stops all contact between you, and the other member is not told.
- The OLK team reviews reports. Depending on what happened, we may remove or hide content, warn a member, suspend an account for a time or permanently, or close a club or event.
- We may act without a report when we see something that breaks these terms.
- If you think a decision was wrong, use Contact Admin. It stays open to you even while your account is suspended.
Your content
What you post stays yours. By posting it, you allow OLK to store it and show it to other members as the service needs (for example your listings in Browse, your messages to the member you are talking to). This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for what our privacy policy says we keep, such as ratings and reports you wrote about others. Only post what you have the right to post.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from your profile, on the website or in the app (how it works). We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, as described above.
No guarantees
OLK is free and run by volunteers. We work to keep it available and safe, but it is provided as it is, and it may sometimes be unavailable or change. We are not responsible for the books themselves or for what members do in their exchanges. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law does not allow to be limited, including for intent or gross negligence, or your rights as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a way that matters, we will tell members on the site and in the app before the change applies. The date at the top shows the latest version.
